i'm going to do a makeup review, or more like a review of the delivery and packaging of a cosmetic brand that i just feel i should share. for reasons.
the brand is called Melt Cosmetics. i came across them when i was googling 'green lipstick' - as that's a very bold and particular color, i wanted to read up on blogs and search for links that would help narrow down a good quality brand. now, i'm not too up on the MUA community, (with the occasional youtube review) but apparently Melt Cosmetics is huge in the cyber world. especially on Instagram where people are buzzing about it on the regular.
fast forward: i chose a lipstick called "blow"
it is a gorgeous deep forest green with blue undertones. it is vamp meets forest chic. i was concerned about how the texture would be on my lips, as all their products are matte. and as usual - the darker the shade, the harsher it is on your lips' imperfections. i took the risk, and bought it, and here i am. killing it. (i think?)
let me brief on the actual lipstick: it is worth the $19 ($27 total with the tax) dollars. green lipstick, like with any off the grid color is hard to pull off if it doesn't apply proper. this matte is actually creamier than the rest, and reminds me a lot of M.A.C.'s satin finish. it has a understated vanilla scent..it glides on incredibly smooth and is vividly opaque so you don't need to worry about applying several times to get the desired color. the less you apply the less you have to worry about. it does not fade unevenly. i would say the area that will need the most touching up is around the center of your lips as it rubs off the most when you talk. i would recommend finding a liner to wear with it as it has a bit of a tendency to bleed out your lip lines and green lipstick is hard to hide *_*
it goes on smooth but does dry up in 15-20 minutes and you will feel this on your lips, however it won't tug or feel hard. it is long lasting and generally doesn't move around too much. if you have a lip primer go for it. personally i didn't need one (and my lips are always showing their lines and cracks) with this product. it was the right mixture of shiny matte that doesn't crack on your lips. and honestly the shine doesn't last long, it is more evident when first applied.
now: onto the packaging and minor details i was disappointed with when it arrived.
the box is pretty big for one lipstick. similar to M.A.C.'s shipping box - the difference being the stuffing and the inside. it came filled to the brim with padding and extra crinkle paper. this is supposedly to keep it in place and cushioned. when i opened the package the lipstick was right at the edge of the opening. maybe throughout the delivery process it rolled to the edge? okay not a problem as long as the lipstick is alright. when i opened the lipstick package i could feel how cold it was. it's been riding around in a mail truck and temperatures are around 40 to 35 degrees here in Seattle, so that's understandable. the tube itself felt like cheap plastic. could have been sturdier. maybe that's why the lipstick didn't even sit proper.when i opened the tube the entire lipstick had popped off into the cap. because it was so cold the color didn't even smudge on my hands as i held onto it and firmly placed it back into its proper position in the tube. it sat crooked at first before i tried a couple more times to firmly secure it and i think i did okay.
now, i have seen a lot of video and blog reviews about this brand and everyone has mentioned receiving adorable melt cosmetics brand stickers as well as a compact mirror with their purchases. these are supposed to be complimentary and a great way to showcase their buzzing company. my package had none of that. just the order receipt and some glossy postcard with a Melt Cosmetics model. i feel this is inconsistent service and no reason why it should be skipped out. i am not a picky customer. more often than not i keep it to myself and let the situation move on, but i'm definitely taken back by some of this. a friend suggested i email customer service to at least explain how an entire lipstick should not pop off its place and into the cap. and maybe i will, if it continues to do the same. i should mention because of this happening the top of the lipstick was dented a bit. again, unnecessary. i just had higher hopes in some of the detailing and care, but i will say the actual product is great, so there's hope?
final:
buy it for yourself. the texture and colors are to die for. there are much more laid back shades as well, such as browns and pinks. but i recommend going outside the comfort zone. try a green. an aqua. a blue, or even black. plus+++ and i forgot to mention this earlier, this company is run by two women, who are very great friends. one of whom used to work for M.A.C. and now does Rihanna's makeup. snazzy information.
